Delosperma
Delosperma
DESCRIPTION
Delosperma is a bright-flowering group of plants formerly known as the Lampranthus family, featuring stunning flowers in the spring/summer. Flowers are approximately 1-2 inches in diameter.
HOW TO GROW
Native to South Africa.
SEED
Sow immediately at any time onto preferably a soil-based compost, covering with fine grit to approximately their own depth. Germination MAY be quicker if kept at 15 to 20 degrees C. but many seeds WILL NOT come up the year they are sown, needing winter chilling after sowing, and ONLY come up with natural spring germination.
Delosperma Desert Dancers ‘Red’
Delosperma Desert Dancers ‘Red’ from Nishikawa Koichiro. He’s the breeder of ‘Jewels of the Desert’ and the WOW series. Multi toned pink and red foliage…. with bright red flowers it’s simply a ‘must have’. It’s simply fabulous and very special. It’s won several awards already. The emerging spring foliage is bubble gum pink turning deep purple by late summer. Height of 10cm and a spread of 70. Hardy to -20. It’s got a ‘mound’ forming habit which lends perfectly to hanging containers.
PLANTS
Perfect for a rockery or granite wall as they love the full sun. They love plenty of water and feed during the growing season.
The key to watering Delosperma is to “soak and dry”. Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to completely dry before watering again. In active growth, this may be every 1–2 weeks, depending on conditions. In cooler months or dormancy, reduce or stop watering to prevent rot. It is recommended to use pots with drainage holes and never let succulents sit in standing water. Overwatering is the most common cause of succulent problems.
